Derwent Valley 20th Peak Run

What a brilliant weekend. The weather was not to kind but never mind. Arrived Friday night, pitched, cup of tea, then JF sprinted down to the Derwent Valley marquee intent on hot dog or burger! Ace cook, it was brilliant, although lateish there was plenty to tuck into and NO TICKET required! The marquee was moved into when rain came and a good sociable night had by all. Sat morning, wind wind and rain, rain! Good brekky and no hot water in facilities, ne mind, stay mucky JF, off to Crompton Mills. Once again a brilliant venue, conducted tour made this more interesting although David liked to keep us in the rain explaining the system of non return, double reciprocating, reverse flow, mucky water pouring down a hole, not dangerous unless you fall in the system . . . all in the pouring rain! Well done David. Then JF sprinted into the shop, opened his wallet (rare) and adopted a squirrel (nuf said), and off then to the very good value restaurant (not a cafe John), for snack. After about 3 hours there, back to camp site and dinner in tent followed by cards with Gaye and Norman while other went to Bear pub for a very good evenings entertainment. Sunday came with rain gone, windy but bright. We didn't go on the 90 miles run but lounged in the field and drove to Kedleston Hall. Once again, brilliant, open parkland, lovely hall, car park full of Triumphs and other classics. The Church was particularly nice (bit quiet), and the restaurant was very good value (even I didn't moan!). We were there about 3 hours, then and raffle was called and . . . . surprise, I got first prize, a dirigible camera, Gaye and Norman 2 more after a little shuffling of tickets! Raffle prizes galore there were. After this we drove back to site, put the kettle on, waited for the tent to blow away (good job it didn't as Pat had sold it), pack up last of gear, bid farewell, to those staying in the now very very empty field and 2 hours later back in home with another cup of tea and start to unload. Derwent Valley put on a brilliant weekend (their twentieth) I think and we all congratulate them, it was brilliant and once again NO TICKETS.

Old grumpy.
